This Winter and Spring:

Sunday School for children aged 3 through Grade 8 meets on Sundays at 9:45 am in our downstairs classrooms. From December to February, we're learning about The New Testament: The Holy Spirit Leads the Apostles.

Adult Bible Class meets on Sundays at 9:45 am.  Our current class is Return from Exile: A Lenten Journey, led by Pastor Tom Bartzsch.  Christians are on a daily journey from exile—from life under the burden of sin -- to the joy of the Gospel that is ours in Christ Jesus.  As participants dig into the Word of God proclaimed in our Lenten midweek services, they'll discover that Christ travels with us all the way, through exile to the empty tomb and the open gates of everlasting life, and gain confidence in knowing that they do not walk alone!

CARES (Caring, Active, Reaching, Encouraging Sisters in Christ) Women's Bible Study meets on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am, continuing the study of Encouragement from Good News Magazinea guide to God's Word and His good news for you.  Click here for samples of Good News Magazine.

    Pre-Confirmation & Junior Confirmation

Pre-Confirmation and Junior Confirmation classes meet on Mondays at 6 pm!

Pre-Confirmation is a program for students in grades four through six to become more deeply acquainted with the Biblical narrative, beyond what is offered in Sunday school, and to become familiar with portions of Luther's Small Catechism.

Students use the instructional book, One Hundred Bible Stories to learn the Biblical narrative of both the New and Old Testament. Students learn the books of the Bible so they can easily locate passages and accounts. This is supplemented by portions of Luther’s Small Catechism.

For a sample of One Hundred Bible Stories, click here.

For a sample of Luther's Small Catechism, click here.

Junior Confirmation's goal is that those who have gone through instruction in Luther's Small Catechism would grow to have a firm faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Faith is the goal of this instruction, a faith based on the truths revealed in Holy Scripture. We want our children to know not what human wisdom teaches but that which God the Holy Spirit teaches.

Junior Confirmation Class consists of students in grades seven and eight.  Catechumens go through a two year period of instruction in Luther's Small Catechism utilizing the One In Christ – Applying Luther’s Catechism instructional materials. After satisfactorily completing the instruction students may become communing members of the congregation.  (For a sample of One in Christ -- Applying Luther's Catechism, click here.)

Confirmation for second year students takes place on the first Sunday in May.

Memorization is an important part of instruction in Pre-Confirmation and Jr. Confirmation.  Over and over again the Bible speaks of knowing Scripture, having it in one's heart.  Memorization of texts of Scripture and the six chief parts of the Small Catechism provides the framework and basic building blocks of faith.  See the article The Best Cardio Exercise for more about memorization.
