September 16th Update

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Messiah,

Halfway through September, our fall schedule of services, classes and meetings has resumed. In addition, our October calendar is filling up quickly with fellowship, service and outreach activities!

WORSHIP AND CLASS SCHEDULE

  • Our regular Sunday schedule:

    • Divine Service at 10:00 am.

    • Bible Class at 9:00 am. We're just beginning the video-based series Christianity and the Competition. Topics and discussions in this series are based on recorded presentations by the late Dr. Paul Maier.

    • Sunday School resumes this coming Sunday, September 20th at 11:15 am.

  • Livestreams of our Sunday services can be found at:

  • CARES (Caring, Active, Reaching, Encouraging Sisters in Christ) continues on Wednesdays at 9:45 am, featuring an ongoing discussion of the book Come and Be Filled: Feasting with Jesus in His Word by Kristopher R. Whitby. Click here for a sample.

  • LifeLight has resumed with 9-week classes on The Epistle to the Hebrews. Classes are already in progress on Tuesdays at 10:30 am; an evening session begins tonight, Wednesday, September 16th at 6:30 pm (note the corrected time). It's not too late to take part! Click here for a sample.

  • Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) Fall Rally "Jesus is the Light" Saturday, September 26th, 2026 from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm at Messiah. Cost is $10 per person; ingathering is a collection of shirts for residents of our local Michigan Veterans Home. Contact Linda Blain for details and last-minute updates!

  • Family Movie Night Friday, October 2nd at 6:00 pm, sponsored by the Board of Education. Church and preschool families are invited to watch Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird "on the big screen" in the fellowship hall, complete with popcorn and snacks! Bring your own seating (lawn chairs for adults; blankets/pillows for kids). Mark your calendars and plan to sign up in advance at the Welcome Center.

  • NEW! Lutheran Women's Missionary League Sunday will be celebrated at Messiah with a door collection for mites on Sunday, October 4th. Mites are monetary donations (coins or dollars) that fund mission grants in Michigan and around the world. 75 cents of each dollar gathered is used for Michigan grants. 25 cents funds national LWML mission grants. Thank you for your donations!

  • NEW! Harvest Dinner & Bake Sale, Sunday, October 18th after service, sponsored by the Parish Service Guild.. A roast pork dinner and desserts will be served. Tickets will be available after church services starting Sunday, October 4th; see any Guild member for more details.

  • NEW! Fall Clean Up Day is coming Saturday, October 24th from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The Board of Trustees are looking for helpers, young and old, to join us as we clean up our grounds and facility for the holidays. More information will follow in the bulletin. See you there!

  • NEW! Trunk or Treat, Saturday, October 31st at 3:00 pm! Watch for more information from the Board of Outreach coming soon.

A FOLLOW-UP FROM RICK KRUEGER

Thanks to everyone who has prayed for me and sent their good wishes. My sinus surgery on August 31st was fully successful, and my first post-operation appointment went well (one more appointment remains in a couple of weeks). As of this past Monday, I'm free from activity restrictions and have returned to work as I feel able; I'm hoping to be back up to full capacity by the end of September. Thanks for keeping me in your prayers as I continue to recover; special thanks to my wife Deb for loving and supporting me in every way possible!

A PRAYER REQUEST FROM PASTOR HOESE

Early on the morning of Monday, September 21st, Pastor Hoese will undergo heart bypass surgery. Please keep him, his wife Shirley, and their family in your prayers. Pray also for the surgeon and all medical staff who will care for him, asking the Lord to bestow upon them wisdom and skill for the task entrusted to them. In addition, pray that Pastor Hoese be guarded from the temptations and assaults of the Evil One and from all doubt in the Lord’s love and mercy. Feel free to use the following prayer from Lutheran Service Book as a model:

Lord Jesus Christ, hear our prayers on behalf of Your servant Pastor Hoese as he undergoes surgery. Bless him with faith in Your loving-kindness and protection. Endow the surgeon and the medical team with ability and skill so that, according to Your will, this surgery may bring Your servant to a full restoration of health and strength; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
