Messiah continues its observance of Lent with midweek Services of Prayer; identical services will be held on Wednesday, March 18th at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm. The 7:00 pm service is scheduled to be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/messiahgr, our website and our Facebook page. A BBQ Pork supper (prepared by Dan Hula KCBS MCBJ) will be held before the evening service at 6:00 pm in our Fellowship Hall.
We continue our Lenten sermon series, which is based on the ancient hymn “O Love, How Deep” (Lutheran Service Book 544), with the theme “Healing from Demons”:
He sent no angel to our race,
Of higher or of lower place,
But wore the robe of human frame,
And to this world Himself He came.
For us baptized, for us He bore
His holy fast and hungered sore;
For us temptation sharp He knew;
For us the tempter overthrew.
We talked about angels during Midweek of Lent 1. Tonight, we will talk about the darker side of the story—that is, demons. Demons are fallen angels who rebelled against God and His giving of Himself to us. Demons, with Satan chief among them, seek to undermine everything God is and does, even today. In our sermon tonight, we will hear how Jesus heals a man with a demon and how that work of healing continues today. (Psalm 71:1-8; Romans 8:9-11; Mark 5:1-13; Mark 15:6-32)
